Small Icon - Brooch depicting the face of the Virgin Mary in Greek orthodox style. Painted by Silvia Salvadori. Painting made with tempera and pure gold on wood. Work performed with the ancient pictorial techniques of the Sienese school of the fifteenth century. 5 x 7 cm This brooch made on commission, recalls Greek Orthodox painting, but at the same time has typical features of Siena's painting by Duccio di Buoninsegna. Even in this small icon - brooch, Silvia tried to combine the two styles, the Italian painting of the 14th century with the typically orthodox Russian painting. The helplessness of Mary's face, the finely engraved dress on gold, the use of mother-of-pearl, make this Virgin Mary a unique and precious piece. Tempera and gold knuckle with primer on the sides of the oval.

Icon of Saint Philip Apostle. Painted by Silvia Salvadori

Sacred icon made with gouache and gold on board. Work performed with the ancient painting techniques of the Sienese school of the fifteenth century. 40 x 30 cm

This icon made on commission was painted according to the Greek Orthodox style. In this splendid Saint Philip icon, Silvia Salvadori inserts some elements of modernity that add more realism to the figure of Saint Philip. Following the rule he says, "the image speaks to the eyes like the words in the ear," Silvia paints a great and very realistic Saint. The same effect is found in the incarnate delicate and epidermal rendering. Elements of a modernism typical of paintings by Duccio di Buoninsegna and Simone Martini, revisited in personal essence. The elements of the Greek Orthodox tradition remain unchanged and respected in the fixation of hands and rigid and geometrical garments. Silvia Salvadori chooses for this icon hot and cold shades of contrast on the gold background. The halo has been finely worked with a very large granite on gold with agate tip.

Painting by Silvia Salvadori Egg tempera on Gold Leaf 23k. Engraved bunches and agate stone.
