Icon of Saint Philip Apostle. Painted by Silvia Salvadori
Sacred icon made with gouache and gold on board. Work performed with the ancient painting techniques of the Sienese school of the fifteenth century. 40 x 30 cmThis icon made on commission was painted according to the Greek Orthodox style. In this splendid Saint Philip icon, Silvia Salvadori inserts some elements of modernity that add more realism to the figure of Saint Philip. Following the rule he says, "the image speaks to the eyes like the words in the ear," Silvia paints a great and very realistic Saint. The same effect is found in the incarnate delicate and epidermal rendering. Elements of a modernism typical of paintings by Duccio di Buoninsegna and Simone Martini, revisited in personal essence. The elements of the Greek Orthodox tradition remain unchanged and respected in the fixation of hands and rigid and geometrical garments. Silvia Salvadori chooses for this icon hot and cold shades of contrast on the gold background. The halo has been finely worked with a very large granite on gold with agate tip.
