Description
This brooch made on commission, recalls Greek Orthodox painting, but at the same time has typical features of Siena's painting by Duccio di Buoninsegna. Even in this small icon - brooch, Silvia tried to combine the two styles, the Italian painting of the 14th century with the typically orthodox Russian painting. The helplessness of Mary's face, the finely engraved dress on gold, the use of mother-of-pearl, make this Virgin Mary a unique and precious piece.
