Tuscan Landscape Painting in Valdarno
The painting depicts the Moon Goddess Selene immersed in a surreal Tuscan landscape made up of fields of flowers and in the background the gullies typical of the Valdarno countryside. Selene touches the golden moon that illuminates the entire scene. The moonbeams bathe the steep ridges of the badlands and the petals of the many wild flowers. Selene wears a precious gilded brocade robe decorated with delicate engravings on a pure gold background and outlined in indigo blue and purple red. The pigments are the same as those used by Simone Martini in the Tuscany Art. The painting was executed by Silvia Salvadori using the ancient painting techniques of the early Renaissance Sienese school in Tuscany. Every element echoes the pictorial tradition of the highest school of painting inspired by Simone Martini in the decorations of the robe and the delicacy of the complexion of the Face of the Goddess. The elegantly gathered hair recalls Botticelli's Venus. Every element taken from nature has been carefully emphasised. The gullies, typical of the Tuscan countryside, are transformed into golden pyramids and the wild flowers typical of the month of May together create a harmonious atmosphere full of colours, emotions and memories of a still unspoilt and wild nature. This painting is intended as an invitation to contemplate nature and the Tuscan landscape, which has always been a source of inspiration for the greatest Renaissance artists.
