Simone Martini, sometimes also referred to as Simone Sanese (Siena, 1284 - Avignon, 1344), was an Italian painter and miniaturist, indisputably considered one of the masters of the Sienese school and certainly one of the greatest and most influential artists of Italian medieval art, the only one capable of contending the scepter of the greatest artist of the fourteenth century to Giotto.
