Description

The mythological figure of the Chimera stands over the city of Arezzo. In the background is a Tuscan landscape painted on gold. The pigments used are the same as those used by the master painters of the early Tuscan Renaissance. The chimera of the city of Arezzo was entirely engraved on gold using the technique of the ancient art of medieval goldsmithing in Tuscany. The colours of Cimabue's crucifix in the Basilica of San Domenico in Arezzo emerge with full force in this small but symbolic medieval miniature. The historical centre of Arezzo with its cathedral, Romanesque churches and medieval towers stands out against the golden background. Tuscan landscape, city of Arezzo. The Chimera of Arezzo.
